Artist Statement
I am a sculptor whose art replicates or references dispensable objects which were once useful, but are discarded when no longer useful; such as staplers, buckets, lightbulbs, and other ordinary items. My practice floats in a realm between art and craft. Craft is the laborious technical application of skills refined by a history of making things. I pair the labor of craft with an artistic freedom that prioritizes the quick handed-ness of easy construction and cheap replicable results. The objects I make come with no expectation of functionality or usefulness.
I am an object person. I buy them. I keep them. I collect them. My art replicates them. I redesign the designed as art, with consideration given to the significance of the craftsperson in the history of made objects. I make art objects in reference to the utility of non-art objects. I leave the physical form of an object intact, but entirely devoid of all function and purpose.
